Night Magic

Not too long after I discovered Circles in the Sand in Bandon, Oregon, and before I became their official photographer, I went to their draws out of curiosity and awe. This group of people creates amazing labyrinth works of art on the sand at low tide much to the delight of the people on the beach, and then the waves would come back up and wash it all away. After one winter draw in late afternoon, we left to get some dinner. Out of curiosity, we went back to the beach to see if the labyrinth was still there. It was! The conversation then went something like this: “I have an idea. It's getting dark fast. What if you took a flashlight, went down to the beach, walked the labyrinth, while I stay up on the cliff and take a long exposure picture?” Sure! This is a 20 minute exposure picture which I blended to add the sunset sky from earlier that evening.
